Have You Been Introduced To Vroman's Sale Section?

There's nothing better than getting new books (IMO). However, getting new books that are also on sale??? That may take the cake.     Located in the front of our store is a beautifully curated sale book section. Mr. Steve, as you may know him from the Kid's Department, is also our sale book buyer! He works really hard with several different distributors, to bring the best low cost books to our store.      Below are some of the current treasures, that can be found to the left, after entering the store from our newsstand.

My Top Ten Bookstore Gifts For Loved Ones

Hi! This post is filled with books and items that I am actually getting for my friends and family! See below for links to buy from Vroman's, prices of gift items or links to the author's Twitter accounts:

1. Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham

  • This was amazing. I have been a fan of Lauren's for so long and was so excited to get a copy in my hands. I also ended up listening to the audio, which was brilliant. The book is funny, informational, and charming. You feel like you really get to know Lauren, what it was like to be a part of Gilmore Girls & Parenthood, and how she views acting.

2. The Mothers by Brit Bennett

3. Bards Dispense Profanity, $22.99 & Dick, $22.99

  • These I just think are hilarious. They are similar in game play to Cards Against Humanity, but with a Shakespeare and Melville theme.

4. The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

5. Pusheenicorn, $29.95

6. The Forest Feast Gatherings  by Erin Gleeson

  • I was actually working in the receiving department when I discovered this beautiful book. I was captivated by the watercolor pictures, as well as the delectable recipes! I am not a vegetarian, but would eat every recipe in this book in a second. I ended up buying it for my cousin and aunt who were out of ideas for vegetarian recipes! They loved it!

7. Tombow Brush Pens, Blending Kit etc. ($3.99-$27.99)

8. Snoozies, $14.99

9. Good Clean Fun by Nick Offerman

  • You can't say anything bad about Nick Offerman. My little brother is obsessed with him and has every one of his books. This is going to be his Christmas present (shhh!).

10. Bring Your Own Book, $17.99

  • This is another cool came for any book lover in your life. Basically, you bring your own book and submit lines from your selection into the game when asked. The judge in each round picks a winner, based on what is the most funny or the best fit, for the category.

About Me & Why I Started This Blog

Let’s get real here. I’ve never been great at diaries or journals, and blogging is no different. Still, I am going to make a valiant effort to post as much as possible about things I find in the bookstore I work at, as well as things in the book community-something I am very passionate about.

A little about me:

My name is Jen. I am 24 and work at the best independent bookstore in the world : Vroman’s Bookstore, in Pasadena, CA. No stalkers, please! I have worked there for almost 6 years and have been in love with it from the second I started.

Books have always been my passion. Still, in college I majored in Psychology, thinking that I wanted to be a Clinical Social Worker. 6 months into my job at a nearby hospital (Social Work Assistant), I realized that I no longer was interested in Social Work….I wanted to be where my passion was, with books!

Now, after being on-call for those sad 6 months, I have returned to my lovely little store. I hope to post fun things I find in and around the store. It is my hope to inspire all you little book nerds, and maybe entice you to visit my store (or any indie bookstore) if you are ever in the area!

As I write this, I am currently reading: THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN, by Paula Hawkins. I just finished, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, by J. K. Rowling. I gave it a ⅘ on Goodreads. You can send me a message if you would like to discuss.

Have a lovely day!

Can we just talk about how much I love my bookshelf? I LOVE my bookshelf.
