Personal gift recommendations from a starstruck bookseller.
I imagine working in any bookstore, is a struggle. However, working at Vroman's, is incredibly difficult. The buyers (book and merch), do too good of a job at keeping me broke! Everyday, I see new things that I want to buy. I come up with "justified" reasons why I need certain items and then they sit on my desk for about a week. If the items I pick stay on my desk for the whole week, I buy them. If I end up putting them back, I obviously don't.
These are the things that have collected upon my desk this week. Some I have already purchased. Others will be bought tomorrow when we get paid. 😂😇
Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari
-This was one of my favorite books that I read last year. When I found it IN THE SALE BOOK SECTION, I knew I needed to buy it for someone.
I don't know who yet...but it will make a great gift for a friend or family member in the future.
Next, we have: Don't, by Litsa Trochatos
& Lilly's Chocolate Heart by MY FAVORITE CHILDREN'S AUTHOR IN THE WORLD, Mr. Kevin Henkes
Why are these on my desk? Let me tell you-
Both are going to be gifts for my friend's baby. When Don't first came out, I was immediately drawn to it. It is a super funny board book, about what NOT to do...ex. play hide and seek with a chameleon.
Lilly's Chocolate Heart on the other hand, is not only by my favorite kid's author, but is a super SWEET (get it 😏) board book about treasuring something you love-with a quirky ending.
Next, is a brand new Grumpy Cat graphic novel!
Grumpy Cat (AndPokey!) is an adorably blunt, early graphic novel, for younger readers. I adore Grumpy Cat and love that his franchise is expanding. I feel like he IS MY SOUL.
Imaginary Fred, is another sale book find! It is smaller than the regular picture book, probably around 5×7 and has a white cover! I think this purchase really had no rhyme or reason to it, other than I am a BOOK COLLECTOR (not a hoarder). 😂
Finally, the next four books and items were purchases for my little cousins. I was going to see them for dinner and wanted to bring them some new goodies! The selection included:
-The Princess in Black Takes a Vacation by Shannon & Dean Hale
This is the 4th book in the series. I had been getting my little cousins one, pretty much everytime I saw them, since they've been coming out. This book actually caused a meltdown when I gave it to them, because they didn't want to share. If that isn't incentive to buy this series, I don't know what is!
-Narwhal Unicorn of the Sea by Ben Clanton
This is another early graphic novel that is also incredibly hillarious. I love the back and forth banter or the characters so much!
-Meri Meri hair clips
I feel like the clips speak for themselves. How could I possibly pass them up!
I know I am not the only one with compulsive book buying issues! Comment below on books that you've bought this week!
I would also love if you guys could hit that "Follow" button, to the bottom right of the screen. Thanks for reading! Love,

Hi! This post is filled with books and items that I am actually getting for my friends and family! See below for links to buy from Vroman's, prices of gift items or links to the author's Twitter accounts:
- This was amazing. I have been a fan of Lauren's for so long and was so excited to get a copy in my hands. I also ended up listening to the audio, which was brilliant. The book is funny, informational, and charming. You feel like you really get to know Lauren, what it was like to be a part of Gilmore Girls & Parenthood, and how she views acting.
2. The Mothers by Brit Bennett
3. Bards Dispense Profanity, $22.99 & Dick, $22.99
- These I just think are hilarious. They are similar in game play to Cards Against Humanity, but with a Shakespeare and Melville theme.
5. Pusheenicorn, $29.95
- I was actually working in the receiving department when I discovered this beautiful book. I was captivated by the watercolor pictures, as well as the delectable recipes! I am not a vegetarian, but would eat every recipe in this book in a second. I ended up buying it for my cousin and aunt who were out of ideas for vegetarian recipes! They loved it!
7. Tombow Brush Pens, Blending Kit etc. ($3.99-$27.99)
8. Snoozies, $14.99
- You can't say anything bad about Nick Offerman. My little brother is obsessed with him and has every one of his books. This is going to be his Christmas present (shhh!).
10. Bring Your Own Book, $17.99
- This is another cool came for any book lover in your life. Basically, you bring your own book and submit lines from your selection into the game when asked. The judge in each round picks a winner, based on what is the most funny or the best fit, for the category.
